Olivah, the timeless charm of stone

Stones that dress houses. Stones that dress dreams.

Gisella Tortoriello created Portuguese brand Olivah, after 20 years of experience in the stone industry

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry that “a pile of stones ceases to be a pile of stones, the moment a single Man contemplates it, the image of a cathedral was born within it.”.

This is what architect Gisella Tortoriello did when creating Olivah, a Portuguese brand of decorative pieces, artistic and stone furniture, after 20 years of experience in the stone industry, forced by the pandemic to make a forced reflection.

When looking at the pieces themselves, at such a sensitive time in our lives, one look made her create beyond. This observation combined with his admiration for art and passion for design, for beauty and natural stone, and the desire to transform waste into luxury, led her to create the Olivah brand in a reunion with architecture.

This young Portuguese brand, who was born in 2021, has its headquarters in a region with a tradition in stone working and the seal of know-how, passed from generation to generation. It is in Sintra that Olivah realizes the design of unique pieces, in a process that begins with the creation of a 3D model, followed by the selection of raw material in natural stone of different types, like marble, the limestone, shale and granite.

After selecting the best stone for each project, is taken to the cutting machines, or CNC cutting, sent to the sculpture areas, and finally into the hands of experts. This entire journey that aligns with the rigor of its design, is carried out in partnership with companies in the industry.

The natural stone that Olivah uses is mostly of Portuguese origin, and whenever possible waste is used in the design of its collections, since one of the brand's guiding permissions is that not all waste becomes trash, searching in the quarries for what remains at the mercy of time, thus creating a bridge between the idea and the object. Pieces of stones, block ends, defective sheets, and scrap take on new forms and functions by transforming into unique design objects.

Natural stone is considered a sustainable building material for several reasons.. In the first place, is a renewable resource that can be extracted from the earth in a responsible and sustainable way. Furthermore, natural stone is a durable and resistant material that can last for many years with little maintenance, thus reducing the need for replacement and minimizing the environmental impact associated with the production of new construction materials.

Natural stone is also a material with low environmental impact, as it does not require toxic chemicals for its production and does not emit volatile organic compounds (COV) or other air pollutants. It is a material that can be easily recycled or reused in new construction., thus minimizing the amount of waste generated by the construction industry.

Like this, if you are looking to make a sustainable choice, and at the same time add a touch of elegance and natural beauty to your space, Olivah's natural stone objects are a perfect option.
