Architecture enthusiasts have a double reason to celebrate, two fascinating events are taking place, highlighting brilliance and innovation in the world of construction and design.
National Architecture Awards “Space” 2023
To celebrate Innovation and Excellence in Portugal, here is the long-awaited 1st edition of the National Architecture Awards “Space” 2023, organized by the Magazine Preliminary projects, has begun.
This event scheduled for the days 14 and 15 December at the prestigious House of Architecture in Matosinhos, recognizes architectural achievements in the national territory, and is attended by the Minister of Housing, Marina Gonçalves, who will open the awards ceremony.
The exhibition of works in competition opened on the day 14 from December, at 2:30 p.m., with the conference “Space Awards”, where a panel composed of prominent figures, as Cesar Rouco, Daniel Casas Valle, Luisa Almendra, Nuno Ladeiro, Nuno Magalhães Nunes, Paulo Vila Verde and Vítor Mesquita, debated the architect's ability and approach when creating and developing in empty spaces.
The winners, selected by a jury composed of 20 architects will be revealed at the awards ceremony on the day 15 from December, at 7 p.m.. The seven categories in competition include Collective Equipment, Single family habitation, Collective Housing, Hospitality, Public place, Young Architects and Architectural Rehabilitation. Furthermore, A Sustainability Award will be awarded to the project that demonstrates excellence in this category.
By focusing on construction and rehabilitation, The National Architecture Awards aim to encourage architects in Portugal to invest in innovation, in the quality and enhancement of space and landscape. This event not only celebrates notable achievements in national architecture, but also drives the architectural community to continue to raise standards and contribute to a better built environment, more innovative and sustainable.
Open House Europe: An Invitation to Explore
While the National Architecture Prize honors notable national creations, the 1st Annual Open House Europe Summit takes place in Portugal and Lisbon.
Since yesterday the Architecture Triennial of Lisbon is the host of the first Summit Anual da Open House Europe, an international cooperation project co-financed by the European Union. The summit will present a Public Program on the days 15 and 16 from December, related to this year's theme, “Building Futures Together” with a focus on sustainable practices in our built environment.

The Annual Summit is a meeting of the community of Open House festival organizers, architecture enthusiasts, students and professionals. Hosted at the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, in an 18th century palace transformed into a cultural center, Open House Europe's first Annual Summit will feature a dynamic program with three public debates, three guided tours, a workshop, an exhibition and film screenings, with the aim of facilitating trans-regional exchange, bringing together perspectives and knowledge from diverse fields.
This is a unique opportunity for the Open House community, including those planning to launch an Open House festival in their cities, come together, learn, exchange knowledge and share experiences.
