It is from the year 1926 which dates back to the first license for cork activity created by Ernesto Lourenço Estrada, grandfather of current owners. At this date, he was already established on his own, was the beginning of the relationship between the Estrada family and Cortiça.

Sofalca was founded in 1966 and the factory installed in Abrantes, Central Cork Products Society, Lda., by Abrantes, by family members Ernesto, Mario and João Estrada, father and uncles of the current owners, Today, part of the Estrada Group.

Abrantes was chosen because it is a city with a long tradition and knowledge in working with cork and in the midst of cork oak forests., thus facilitating the collection of raw materials. Since then, he has been dedicated to the production of Expanded cork agglomerate for thermal and acoustic insulation.

Em 2013 launch the Blackcork, a cork furniture brand expanded with the creative direction of Toni Grilo and in 2015, was born in Gencork, fruit of the partnership with Arqt. Brimet Silva who takes on the creative direction of this new Sofalca brand.

Still not satisfied with growth, Sofalca also begins producing furniture for internationally renowned brands, increasingly focused on sustainability and is committed to making any dream come true, since the cork, 100% natural, or allow.
