The New Classics of Brazilian Design: contemporary objects with Portuguese roots

It all starts with a Newsletter. The issue was not just commercial. It was mainly cultural.

It all started with a Newsletter.
On a seemingly ordinary day, when reading a BPI communication dedicated to the universe of the house, Joana Beirão, founder of Portugal Faz Bem®, noticed a detail that quickly turned into a question: how was it possible that, in a section dedicated to habitat and well-being, there was no reference to Portuguese design? The issue was not just commercial. It was mainly cultural.

Portugal produces furniture, lighting, textiles, coverings and objects that compete internationally for their quality, innovation and productive capacity. We work daily with recognized designers, creative studios, highly specialized factories and brands that export worldwide. Even so, We often remain absent from the contexts where Portuguese consumers come into contact with what is produced in their own country.

It was from this observation that a conversation was born. And from this conversation a proposal was born and consequently a partnership.

Today, This partnership materializes in “The New Classics of Brazilian Design”, an initiative developed by Portugal Faz Bem® for the new category Casa | BPI Store Design and Decoration, which gained physical expression through a pop-up exhibition at BPI All in One Lisbon. After the excellent reception from the bank team, of the visiting public and participants in the celebration talk which brought together the architect Miguel Arruda, o industrialist Paulo Estrada it's at artistic director Joana Marcelino, with moderation by Ana Lia Santos, the exhibition will now continue until the next day 11 of June.

Its realization also coincided with Lisbon Design Week, which created a particularly favorable context for reinforcing the visibility of Portuguese design, bring it closer to new audiences and integrate it into one of the most relevant weeks for promoting the discipline in Portugal.

More than an exhibition, This is an approximation exercise
A rapprochement between design and people.
A rapprochement between those who create and those who inhabit.
An approximation between national industry and Brazilian daily life.

Through a selection of brands, national ateliers and authors, the initiative presents pieces that represent different generations and different ways of thinking about contemporary design. Between wood, cork, there, stone, leather and ceramics, we found objects that reveal the encounter between Portuguese know-how and innovation, between tradition and vision of the future.

Names and brands such as Ana Lia Santos participate in this curation, Branca Lisboa, Blackcork, Burel Factory, Maami Home, Miguel Arruda, Monica Tudichum, Pix, Sugo Cork Rugs, Slow Soaps , Wewood, bringing together a set of pieces that demonstrate the richness and diversity of the national creative ecosystem.

The physical presentation of the collection found a particularly happy setting at BPI All in One Lisbon, a space internationally distinguished for its interior design and whose own architecture integrates Portuguese materials such as cork and Burel wool.

Five years of Portugal Faz Bem®

This project also takes on a special meaning as it takes place in a particularly important year for Portugal Faz Bem®.
Em 2026 we celebrate five years as a brand.
Five years building a living map of national production.
Five years of documenting, give visibility and create opportunities for brands, studios, factories, designers and territories.

More than just growth in scale, This moment represents the maturity of a business model that has been consolidated over time, and which is based on an integrated approach.

An approach that combines subscription as a mechanism for joining the platform, brand curation based on in-depth knowledge of Portuguese industrialized production, practical experience in environmental design projects and works, and also the valorization of manual production, artistic and craftsmanship that continues to differentiate Portugal.

It is this transversal vision that allows us to establish bridges between different agents and create contexts where design is no longer seen as a distant or exclusive territory., to become part of people's lives.

A path that continues

We are aware that there is still a long way to go. We are a digital product.
We continue to work daily to make our brand mapping and referencing system more efficient, studios, factories, stores, Visitable museums and production spaces. We continue to look for new ways to organize information, create relationships and facilitate access to the enormous productive heritage, that exists in Portugal.

But initiatives like “The New Classics of Portuguese Design” show us that we are on the right path. They show us that the bridges we build have value. They show us that there is interest in bringing design closer to everyday life. They show us that Portuguese design wins when it leaves specialized circles and meets people in the places they frequent, in the homes they live in and the choices they make.

Because design is not just a product.

It's culture.

It's industry.

It's knowledge.

It's identity.

And that's precisely when we manage to place it close to everyone, that we give it the value it deserves.
