Founders DAMfurniture

This brand of furniture and accessories 100% Portuguese, serves as an inspiration to any entrepreneur. Dam's story begins in 2013, When the couple of designers Joana Santos and Hugo Silva, lost their job and turned their lives around.

The two designers, who have always been passionate about creating new objects, at the time they were designing furniture for their own home, among the sketches were the famous Nel and Maria bedside tables, that made them take a step forward. They applied that same year, with these pieces, to the Serralves Foundation's POP's Project and won in the furniture category. Nell and Maria were the foundations for building the Dam, that three months after Serralves, took me to 100% Design in London, more 10 products designed and four produced. From then on, the world began to know Dam.

All Dam pieces go beyond technical drawing, they have a narrative, as if they were characters. The pieces from this Portuguese furniture brand are inspired by Portugal., in nature and in the banalities of everyday life.

The Gago chair, is an example, inspired by the shape of the helmet of the first aviator to cross the Atlantic, its design is characterized by curved arms like the wings of a seaplane, and the upholstery rests on a solid wood platform reminiscent of seaplane floats, to offer to whoever sits on it, the impression of taking off on a perfect adventure.

Production is entirely carried out between Paços de Ferreira and Leiria, with socially responsible manufacturers with high ethical standards, and in close collaboration with people with different experiences, that contribute to a common goal- value what is done locally. Sustainability is the starting point for each product that Dam develop.

Making quality pieces that last for many years and are timeless, is the first topic in the commitment to sustainability that is based on 5 core values. The other four are based on the use of natural and certified materials, in cultural heritage, at the fair value of each piece and not accumulating stock, because each piece is only produced after ordering.

Dam then works with raw material suppliers and socially responsible Portuguese manufacturers who operate according to the highest ethical standards.. It also works closely with people with different experiences who contribute to a common goal that everyone is proud to believe in – valuing what is done locally.

After product development in the office installed at Oliva Creative Factory in São João da Madeira, the DAM team monitors production, which involves great care and precision.

This Portuguese furniture and accessories brand knows that there is no machine that can truly replace the hand or the eye, therefore guarantees commitment to quality materials, technology and craftsmanship to produce unique furniture in sophistication and quality, with a strong personality and that withstand daily use.

In addition to the intrinsic value of the brand based on the knowledge and desires of the two founding designers,, Dam promotes collaborations with other designers too, fulfilling in this case the role of editor. The result of these collaborations is, for example, the piece Celeste, which incorporates the very Portuguese name, just like marble, basketry and cork in two possible versions of the piece, by designer Christophe de Sousa.

Today Dam sells its products mainly on the international market, this being a commitment since the beginning of activity. The packaging of the products is carried out at DAM's facilities and their transport is selected based on their lowest ecological footprint., reflecting the sustainability concerns that the brand has from product conception to delivery.

The main destination for DAM parts is the United States, France, Germany and United Kingdom. Alongside this, he collaborates with several Architecture and Decoration projects such as Quinta do Craveiral,, for those who designed and manufactured pieces for their 33 rooms.

We start the mapping Portugal Faz Bem 3.0 focusing on Sustainability because we can make a difference in creating a brighter future for everyone and DAM is one of the referenced and inspirational brands due to the quality of its choices and good design. Congratulations DAM!
