The New Age of Artistic Ceramics will be at Oeiras Ceramic Art 2025 from may 16 to 19 of October. Answer Call until 14 July.
Between ancestral gesture and contemporary design, Portuguese ceramics are reborn as a creative expression, sustainable and identity and connects tradition and contemporaneity. In recent years, Artistic Ceramics has gained a new centrality in the universe of visual arts, design and contemporary manual practices. We decided to explore why, In this article.
Of a know-how often associated with tradition and ancestral craft, Ceramics are reborn today and binds to a creative expression, emotional and sensory, and is part of the trends of contemporary handicraft, do authorial design and from Material sustainability.
This revaluation, which is intended to show in Another edition of Oeiras Ceramic Art, beyond heritage Portuguese ceramic is also driven by several other factors of the current that we try to dissect and enumerate.
The search for authenticity
In times marked by mass production, Artificial intelligence and growing digital dematerialization, Ceramics is imposed as a sensitive and conscious response. The public, are collectors, Curious designers or consumers - increasingly values unique objects, soulful, hand -made, with time and intention. This one returning to gesture and matter is not just an aesthetic tendency, It is a cultural choice: represents the demand for authenticity, for real stories and a more direct connection. In contemporary artistic ceramic, Each piece is an act of resistance to the ephemeral and impersonal.
Culture of well-being and presence
In a accelerated and saturated world of digital stimuli, Ceramics allows a rare break: A tactile experience, concrete and deeply human. Workshops and practical experiences become creative and therapeutic escapes, where the simple gesture of shaping the clay invites to concentration, to patience and inner silence. The ceramic practice is, for many, A form of active meditation, an exercise of full presence, where the body, Mind and Matter are at the same pace. This reunion with manual doing contributes to emotional well-being and reinforces the importance of sensory experiences in contemporary daily life.
Global aesthetic trend and quality requirement
Ceramics won a prominent place in galleries, design fairs, concept stores and digital platforms around the world. Beyond your raw aesthetics, imperfect and tactile, that seduces interior designers, chefs, collectors and luxury brands, There is a growing demand for pieces that express not only beauty, but also excellence in execution. In a global market saturated with imitations, Quality has become an unenforceable value. Ceramics is affirmed, like this, as a language of distinction and authenticity: Each piece has the responsibility of affirmation of know-how, sensitivity and commitment to time.
Creative empowerment
Increasingly young artists, designers and self -taught exploit ceramics as a means of plastic expression, crossing it with sculpture, Performance and Installation. Although there are numerous techniques, all demanding and of great technical and sensory value, The truth is that, with few tools and a simple but structured orientation, It is possible to quickly feel the genuine pleasure of shaping matter. It is in this direct contact with the clay that many discover a deep form of expression, almost meditative, where gesture becomes creation.
Positioning of ceramics in the current
Contemporary ceramic is thus positioned, today, between the Artistic field, o functional design it's at identity cultural exploitation. It is simultaneously a product and a narrative - on the territory, the materials, gestures and people. In Portugal, This movement gains strength with the work of independent ceramists, ateliers and factories that cross innovation with the legacy.
Events such as Oeiras Ceramic Art materialize this new place of ceramics: as accessible art, as a meeting platform between creators and public, and as a vital part of the cultural and economic regeneration of manual practices.
